150 protest against cuts at MMU
A demonstration was held at the MMU on Wednesday 10th February with around 150 people turning up. The majority of workers there were UNISON with some students turning up. The demo does at least seem to have boosted the morale of the Unison activists. Management had banned the demo from occupying any of their property, even areas around buildings. The demo as a small act of defiance did move onto an area that the MMU had denied them access. There were security in attendance but they did not intervene.
Flash Occupation in solidarity with education workers at Sussex University
Over 100 students have occupied a conference centre at the University of Sussex in Brighton against proposed course cuts and job losses. The action comes after weeks of concerted campaigning during which the university management have failed to take away the threat of compulsory redundancies and course cuts. The students described their action as "a display of support and solidarity for the UCU’s upcoming strike ballot. Furthermore, we stand in solidarity with all other workers at Sussex taking action against the cuts."
