http://www.ucu.org.uk/cutslist (October 09): London Metropolitan is now being greylisted following the continued failure of management to consult properly regarding its redundancy scheme to cut 550 jobs. Our understanding is that the university plans to make 160 posts redundant by the end of July next year (which means approximately 180 people will lose their jobs), The union is furious that the university rejected 89 of the 202 applicants for voluntary redundancy (almost half - 44%), which more than covered the number of job losses announced between now and the end of July 2010

London Met: First impressions in the hot seat - Times Higher Education

The new vice-chancellor of London Metropolitan university, Malcolm Gillies, has said his first impression of the institution has been "hugely positive". London Met has made about 60 compulsory and 100 voluntary redundancies in recent months, and handed back tens of millions of pounds in public funding. The university's board of governors are to stand down by the end of August. A strategy document will go out to consultation in March and a master plan will be in place before the general election, Professor Gillies said.

London Met governors asked to consider their position - Times Higher Education

After a review of the funding fiasco at London Metropolitan University, Hefce called on governors to “consider their position”. As a result of submitting inaccurate data about student dropouts to the funding council, the university has been forced to hand back £36.5 million overpaid to it by Hefce between 2005-06 and 2007-08. The review by Sir David Melville, the former vice-chancellor of the University of Kent, concluded that the university’s board of governors and audit committee were accountable for the financial failure.
